Sophie
Sophie was our founder’s family dog, a Havanese doted upon by everyone who met her. After she died in 2023 at fifteen, our founder began fostering senior dogs through Muttville in her memory.
Loki
Loki was one of those fosters. He was a sixteen-year-old, mostly blind Pomeranian whose family could no longer care for him. He was feisty, full of personality, and always interested in a snack.
Yoghurt, chicken, cheese, and broccoli were his favorites. He died in February 2026 at eighteen and a half. So many people loved and celebrated him.
Mika
Mika joined the family in April 2026. She’s a toothless shoodle who was described as a seventeen-year-old couch potato with dementia. She’s actually almost fifteen, doesn’t have dementia, and likes to walk more than 10,000 steps a day.
She’s also very sweet and snuggly. After a long walk, she’s happy to find a lap and curl up.
Dominic
Dominic is a ten-year-old Pomeranian who came into Downey as a stray. He was at risk of euthanasia and marked rescue-only, which meant only an approved Los Angeles County rescue partner could take him out.
He looked scared in his photos and reminded our founder of Loki. She emailed more than 100 rescue partners, offering to cover all his expenses and provide a long-term foster home, before finding one who could help. He’s been a sweet boy in his temporary foster home, and the plan is for Asgard to take over his care.
Helping Dominic is what led to Asgard. Our founder started Asgard with the goal of becoming an approved shelter partner so that she could bring dogs into care directly.
What we’re building
Asgard is a small rescue focused on senior and small-breed dogs, including those with medical or behavioral needs. Our founder handles the day-to-day work, with support from the board.
We’ll help dogs find adoptive homes or provide long-term care, depending on their needs and our capacity.
